Music to cook dinner to

I’m about to sign the lease for my first “big girl” apartment. Hip hip hooray!

Although I’ve yet to move a single piece of furniture into my new place, I can already picture myself coming home from work, turning on some tunes and making a delicious meal. Maybe this. Or this. (OK, probably this.) Fine. It’ll be a Lean Cuisene. Regardless, the music will reflect the cozy nature of the food I long to cook.

Naturally, I’ve already made the playlist, because why pack up all of your belongings when you can browse Spotify for three hours? Priorities, people.

Anyway, I’ve included the playlist here and below. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do (and cook better meals while listening to it than I do).

  2. “Sex Tourists” – French Kicks
  3. “There Goes The Fear” – Doves
  4. “My Life” – Best Coast

Summertime tunes: music to (literally) melt to

Summer is officially upon us, and I could not be more bummed. Now before you toss me into the loony bin, wipe that disgusted look off your face and allow me to explain.

I recognize I may be alone on this one, but summer is easily my least favorite season. I used to be conflicted on this point. Back in the day, at least summer meant no school or work. Not anymore. Thanks to the unpleasant arrival of adulthood that came with my college graduation, that is no longer the case. Now, summer is a time of constant stickiness. A time of painful sunburn. A time of melting under the sun. A time of fruitless attempts to straighten my hair.

Still, I am never one to deny a seasonal playlist, and though I prefer the Christmastime melodies of Bing and Nat, the summer collection I assembled last year is proving to be just as pleasant in 2012. It includes:

  • “In the Summertime” – Mungo Jerry
  • “God Loves You, Michael Chang” – Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele
  • “In the Sun” – She & Him
  • “Pack Up” – Eliza Doolittle
  • “It’s All Right” – The Impressions
  • “Send Me On My Way” – Rusted Root
  • “Collector” – Here We Go Magic
  • “There Are Listed Buildings” – Los Campesinos
  • “Radio, Radio” – Elvis Costello
  • “Shine On” – The Kooks
  • “Girl” – Beck
  • “That’s Entertainment” – The Jam
  • “Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard” – Paul Simon
  • “Here Comes My Baby” – Cat Stevens
  • “But It’s Alright” – JJ Jackson
  • “Take It Easy” – Surfer Blood
  • “O Valencia!” – The Decemberists
  • “Mushaboom” – Feist
  • “Israeli Caves” – Maps & Atlases
  • “Why Don’t You Stay” – Summer Camp
  • “Lust for Life” – Girls
  • “Sugar Town” – Nancy Sinatra
  • “5 Years Time (Sun Sun Sun)” – Noah & the Whale

The playlist is on Spotify, so feel free to get in the summer mindset with it (even if you’re like me and counting down the days until chai lattes and other autumnal pleasures). Happy listening!
